Vienna, Austria

Why go alone

Vienna is a beautiful travel destination for any traveler. The city is culturally significant and a hotspot for art lovers, with a beautiful, historic city center that’s on the Unesco World Heritage List. Moreover, Vienna is known for it’s classical music history, with many opera houses. Don’t forget to drink a Wiener Melange, a mixture of coffee and hot chocolate, in one of the many coffee shops! Vienna is a relatively safe city, which makes it a perfect citytrip destination for solo travelers.

When to go

Vienna is a nice destination year round. The city is quite green, making it suitable for walks in spring and summer, but it’s also a perfect winter destination. Around Christmas several markets pop up, where you can enjoy mulled wine, Austrian delicacies and a cozy Christmas atmosphere.

Iceland

Why go alone

Iceland is a fantastic country to discover on your own during a solo travel trip. The capital, Reykjavík, is a vibrant city full of restaurants and has a booming nightlife. Outside of the city the island boasts phenomenal nature: glaciers, geysers and waterfalls can be found behind every bend in the road. Additionally, Iceland has been known for years as the safest country in the world, so it is definitely recommended for your first solo trip.

When to go

The best time to travel to Iceland is between June and September. During these months the island gets a lot of daylight, as opposed to the dark winter months. In June, the sun is up for almost 24 hours a day. The additional plus side of traveling in summer is that chances are low that you run into road closures due to snow, and almost all plants are in bloom during this time. It is also the best time for bird and whale watching. The Icelandic autumn and winter are a lot colder, but no less spectacular. The snowy landscapes and frozen waterfalls are enchanting and during this period there’s also a large chance to see the famous Northern Lights.

Singapore

Why go alone

Singapore is a hypermodern city with gigantic skyscrapers and a world port center. At the same time, it is also a lush green and clean city. Singapore has a nice variety between modern buildings, historic temples and green areas such as the botanical garden. Most residents speak English and are friendly towards tourists. Mind the rules, though! Do not leave any waste lying around and cross on the pedestrian crossings, because fines are high. However, thanks to all these rules, Singapore is the safest metropolis in the world and therefore a perfect base for your solo trip in Asia.

When to go

The best time to visit Singapore is between the months of February and August. From September to January is the rain season in Singapore with a high chance of heavy showers.

Move abroad instead of solo traveling? These are the best countries to live in.

Japan

Why go alone

Japan is extremely suitable to visit alone; the country is ultimately geared towards solo travellers. You will find plenty of hotels and hostels for single travelers and traveling through Japan is relatively easy. The language can be a barrier, howerver, because many Japanese do not speak English. This is especially true for the population outside the big cities, but fortunately this is more than compensated by the friendliness and hospitality of the local population.

When to go

Japan has several climates, but in gen

eral spring (March-June) and autumn (September-October) are the best times to travel. The weather is somewhat milder and drier during these months.

Peru

Why go alone

Peru is one of the most popular countries in South America in terms of solo travel. If you travel through this country, there is a good chance that you will meet backpackers and get to know new people. The country is attractive due to the magic of Machu Picchu and the breathtaking Andes, but Peru is a bit more rugged than the previous options and therefore more challenging for a solo trip. So think carefully about the places you want to visit and the way you want to travel.

When to go

The best time to visit Peru is between June and September, when it is winter. During the Peruvian summer it is a lot warmer, but the chance of rain is also greater. During winter in the southern hemisphere, temperatures rise to about 20 degrees Celsius. In the mountains and at night, however, it is a lot colder during this period.
